What to Expect from a New Contact Lens Fitting

Fitting contact lenses is about more than just picking a prescription—it’s about ensuring the lenses are safe, effective, and comfortable for your eyes and lifestyle. Here’s what to expect:

1. Initial Consultation with the Doctor

At your first visit, your eye doctor will discuss your interest in contact lenses and evaluate whether you’re a good candidate. They’ll consider factors such as eye health, prescription, and personal preferences before recommending specific lens types.

2. Contact Lens Fitting

If you’re a candidate, the doctor will take precise measurements of your eyes to select lenses that fit properly and provide the best vision and comfort. This visit may include trying on trial lenses in the office.

3. Hands-On Insertion & Removal Training

New wearers will return for a one-hour session with one of our skilled technicians. During this appointment, you’ll learn how to insert and remove your contact lenses safely and hygienically. Once you’re able to do this successfully on your own three times, we’ll send you home with a set of trial lenses.

4. Trial Period at Home

You’ll wear your trial contact lenses for a few weeks to see how they feel in your daily routine. During this period, we recommend paying close attention to comfort, vision clarity, and how well your eyes adjust.

5. Final Follow-Up & Troubleshooting

The last step is a follow-up appointment with your doctor. This visit allows us to fine-tune your prescription, address any concerns about vision or comfort, and make any necessary adjustments before finalizing your contact lens order.

Why Summer Is a Smart Time to Start

Because the contact lens fitting process takes several appointments, the summer months—when many people have more flexible schedules—can be a great time to begin. Whether you’re preparing for back-to-school, travel, or just want to ditch your glasses for sunny adventures, now is the perfect moment to make the transition.
