Get to Know Dr. Kelly Moritz: A Q&A on Eye Health and Patient Care

At Jahnle Eye Associates, we believe the best eye care starts with a doctor who takes the time to listen, explain, and build a real relationship with each patient. So we sat down with Dr. Kelly Moritz, O.D., one of the optometrists at our Havertown and Media offices, to talk about her approach to care, the conditions she’s most passionate about, and the simple steps everyone can take to protect their vision. You can read more about her background and training on her bio page — but here’s a chance to get to know Dr. Moritz in her own words.

What inspired you to become an optometrist?

I’ve always been interested in healthcare and helping people improve their quality of life. Optometry appealed to me because it combines medical care, technology, and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients. Vision plays such an important role in everyday life, and I find it incredibly rewarding to help people see clearly and maintain healthy eyes throughout their lives.

What do you enjoy most about caring for patients?

The relationships I build with my patients are one of the most rewarding parts of my job. I enjoy getting to know people and helping them understand their eye health. Whether it’s improving someone’s vision with a new prescription, managing an eye condition, or simply providing reassurance, I appreciate the opportunity to make a positive impact on their daily lives.

What types of eye conditions or services are you particularly passionate about?

I enjoy providing comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages. I have a particular interest in helping patients manage dry eye disease, fitting contact lenses, and monitoring chronic conditions such as diabetes, glaucoma, and cataracts. I also enjoy educating patients about preventive eye care and helping them understand how their overall health affects their vision.

What advice do you have for patients to protect their vision and eye health?

One of the most important things patients can do is schedule regular comprehensive eye exams, even if they think their vision is fine. Many eye diseases develop without noticeable symptoms in the early stages. I also encourage patients to wear UV-protective sunglasses outdoors, maintain a healthy lifestyle, manage medical conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, and take regular breaks from screens to reduce eye strain.

What can new patients expect during their eye exam with you?

My goal is to make every patient feel comfortable, informed, and heard. During the exam, I’ll take the time to discuss your vision concerns, review your eye health, and answer any questions you may have. I believe in explaining findings in a way that’s easy to understand so patients feel confident about their eye health and treatment options. I want each patient to leave feeling that they received personalized care tailored to their needs.

What is one common misconception about eye health that you wish more people understood?

A common misconception is that if you can see well, your eyes must be healthy. In reality, many serious eye conditions—including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration—can develop without noticeable symptoms early on. That’s why routine eye exams are so important. They allow us to detect problems early, often before vision is affected, when treatment can be most effective.

Dr. Moritz’s message is a simple but important one: clear vision doesn’t always mean healthy eyes, and routine comprehensive exams are one of the best ways to catch problems early — often before they ever affect your sight. Whether you’re due for a check-up, managing a condition like dry eye or diabetes, or simply have questions about your vision, Dr. Moritz and the team at Jahnle Eye Associates are here to help.
